Historical Note

Barclay Hall is a student dormitory on the campus of Haverford College. Begun in 1876 and completed in 1877, Barclay was the first dedicated student dormitory built on campus and features gothic revival architecture, complete with pointed arches above the main enterances and a steeply pitched roof intersected by the occasional dormer. Barclay was originally built with a central, medieval-themed, tower; however, this architectural element was destroyed in a 1946 fire of unknown origin. Over the years, Barclay has been home to a host of Haverford students, regularly switching between upperclass and first-year housing.
