Biographical / Historical
Students of Haverford Inter-Toilet Publication (S.H.I.T.) was a biweekly newsletter intended to provide "fun-filled useless procrastination." S.H.I.T. first appeared in the 1995-1996 school year, when it was posted in the bathroom stalls of Barclay and Gummere. While this posting site helped the publication find its name, this appearance of S.H.I.T. was short-lived. In Fall 1997, S.H.I.T. was revived by Elliot Targum ‘99 and Jon McCandlish ‘99. Issues were originally distributed in the Dining Center, but the editors later sought to transition to a subscription service to minimize DC distribution. Students could subscribe by email for free and receive a copy of S.H.I.T. in their Haverford mailbox. By issue 5, S.H.I.T. had 190 subscribers. Special issues were also distributed at plenary.
