Biographical Note
John Kirk (1660-1705), a Quaker, was born in Derbyshire, England, to Godfrey Kirk and Jeanne Jacques. In the 1680s, Kirk moved across the Atlantic and settled in Darby Township, Pennsylvania (now Delaware County). He married Joan Ellet in 1688; they had 11 children: Anne, Godfrey, John, Samuel, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, Sarah, William, Isaac, and Thomas. Joan remarried after John's death in 1705.
