 Collection
Identifier: HC.MC-1152

Scope and Contents

The collection contains letters to and from Albert J. Edmunds and J. Rendel Harris.

A folder of the manuscripts of Albert J. Edmunds includes his thoughts on belief and memories of J. Rendel Harris.

Letters from J. Rendel Harris, primarily to Edmunds, were written from Haverford College, England (including Woodbrooke), Suez, Athens, and Constantinople (now Istanbul). The letters offer Harris's advice on Edmunds's notable research interest, the parallels and intersections of Buddhism and Christianity; various topics in Christianity; Buddhism and the New Testament; and incidental issues.

Included also is correspondence of Albert Edmunds, written 1933-1941. There are some responses from Morris Evans Leeds and Felix Morley. Some of this material is especially concerned with Buddhism and Christianity, as well as his time at Haverford.

Letters to Edmunds are from Haverford College friends. Writers include John H. Dillingham, Amelia Mott Gummere, Rufus Jones, Rayner W. Kelsey, Morris Evans Leeds, Christopher Morley, Felix Morley, Frank V. Morley, Robert Rogers, Charles Coleman Sellers, Edith F. Sharpless, and Edward Valentine.
