Scope and Contents
This collection contains the papers and writings of Margaret Hope Bacon. Included within the collection are research materials compiled about Edward Townsend, William Biddle, and Lucretia Mott; documents relating to the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, the Friends Historical Library, the Fair Hill Board, the Farmington Meeting House, and the Fair Hill Burial Grounds; and personal writings including Memorial poetry, correspondance, and historical writings.

Biographical / Historical
Margaret Hope Bacon (1922-2011), the daughter of artist Norman Borchardt, was a graduate of Antioch College. After marrying S. Allen Bacon, she became a Quaker and author of more than a dozen books relating to Quakers and Quakerism-- among the most prized was Mothers of Feminism, but she also wrote biographies of Henry J. Cadbury, Lucretia Mott, and others. She served as assistant director of information for the American Friends Service Committee from 1962 to 1984. She was a T. Wistar Brown Fellow in Quaker Studies at Haverford College and a Friend in Residence at Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham, England.
