Biographical / Historical
The Friends Association for Higher Education (FAHE) was created after a conference that took place at Wilimington College in 1979. This meeting was held by Quaker educators who had the goal of bringing together historically Quaker institutions in hopes that they would create a community focused on improving higher education. Soon after the FAHE formed, their first office was established on the campus of Guilford College. However, since the 1990s, the group has been based at the Friends Center in Philadelphia. Throughout its existence, the FAHE has put together events and activities for their members so that connections between individuals and institutions could be made and ideas involving the bettering of education could be dsicussed among peers. These events include an Annual Conference held each June at one of the organization's member institutions, and the Quaker College Fair held in Philadelphia for students interested in Quaker values-based higher education. The FAHE also releases the electronic journal called Quaker Higher Education, which releases biannually and mostly consists of papers and presentations already discussed during the annual meetings. The Friends Association for Higher Education is still operating in Philadelphia.
