Parker Family papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains the letters, financial documents, photographs and other related materials from three generations of the Parker family. The majority of the letters are either addressed to John N. Parker, Eugenia H. Parker, John Hollowell Parker and Ruth Parker. Other correspondents include Joseph R. Parker, CT, Williams and Company as well as various other members of the Parker family. The letters are mostly personal, with a few discussing business matters or offering seasonal greetings. The large collection of photographs were primarily taken on the family's excursions around the Eastern United States, at their home or at Haverford College. The financial documents contain stock certificates, checks cashed and received and insurance information.

Biographical / Historical
The generations of the Parker Family included in this collection are: Joseph R. Parker, his son John N. Parker and his grandson, John Hollowell Parker. Joseph Robinson Parker was born on February 22, 1920 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina. He married Margaret Ann Newby (1830-1869) on August 5, 1848 and the couple had seven children: John Newby Parker, Mary Elizabeth Parker, Joseph Wilson Parker, Edward Peele Parker, Margaret Morris Parker, William Thomas Parker and Sarah Isabella Parker. Joseph R. Parker died on July 19, 1904. John Newby Parker (Joseph's son) was born on September 27, 1849 in North Carolina. He and his wife Eugenia H. Parker (1859-1943) were Quakers and supporters of the Temperance Movement in the United States. Eugenia Parker was also a strong supporter of the Women's Suffrage Movement during the early 20th century. The couple were married in October, 1888 and had two children: John Hollowell Parker and Alpine Bodine Parker. John N. Parker died on March 28, 1931. John Hollowell Parker was born on October 9, 1891 in Baltimore, Maryland. He married Ruth Pardoe Hunter and the couple had one child, Elizabeth Parker Carter. He died on March 10, 1968.
