Biographical Note
Margaret Ralston Gest was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1900. She got her first art degree from the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art and went on to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, working under Hugh Breckenridge. Additionally, she spent some time in France at the L'Academie Scandinave, Paris. She was a prolific painter in her time; her works were displayed in the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Philadelphia Musuem of Art. She died in 1965, leaving most of her works to Haverford College. The Gest Building on Haverford's campus is named after her.
