Historical Note
The Free German Youth (FDJ) were an East German communist youth organization founded after the end of World War II and the division of Germany by the Iron Curtain of Soviet rule in Eastern Europe. The Free German Youth were affiliated to East Germany's Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). Erich Honecker, leader of East Germany under the rule of the SED regime, was one of the founders of the FDJ.

Overview
