Historical note
“E.S. Hayden”, the daguerreotypist whom is advertised in this poster, may refer to Edward Simeon Hayden, born in Waterbury, Connecticut, in 1825.
Daguerreotyping was the first method of photography that was widely available, used mostly from its creation in 1939 by Louis Daguerre through the 1950s. It involved using an iodine-sensitized silver plate and mercury vapor to create an image.
