Biographical Note
Margaret Hope Bacon (1921-2011) was an American Quaker scholar. An Alumna of Antioch College, she wrote biographies of prominent Quakers, including Henry Joel Cadbury. She also wrote fiction and nonfiction.
Henry Joel Cadbury (1883-1974) was a biblical scholar and Quaker historian. He was a professor at Haverford College and Harvard University. He was the director of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) from 1928 to 1934 and from 1944 to 1960. He delivered the Nobel Prize lecture in 1947 on behalf of the AFSC and the British Friends Service Council, when the two organizations accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the Religious Society of Friends.
