This collection is comprised of typed transcripts and photocopies of the original court documents of William Leddra's arrest in 1660. The documents describe Leddra's arrest by the Last Court of Assistants at Boston, after returning to an area he had previously been banished from.

Biographical Note

William Leddra (?-1661) was a British quaker from Cornwall, who emigrated, or was transported to Barbados. He was a clothier and a Quaker minister. He landed in Rhode Island in March of 1658, and traveled to Connecticut, where he was arrested and banished. He continued on to Salem, Massachusetts. He was arrested at a Quaker meeting in Salem, and taken to Boston. After his release, he returned to Boston and was again arrested in April, 1659. In October of 1659, he was again imprisoned in Boston, and on January 1661, he was brought before Governor Endicott and was sentenced to death. He was executed on Boston Common on January 14, 1661.
