Scope and Contents
The collection includes three unpublished stories: "The Fight for the Marsh," 1972, 129 p. (on saving New Jersey coastal marshlands); "The Freedom Trail," 96 p. (on the Underground Railroad, the important part Quakers played in helping escaping enslaved people, and Haverford's significant role in the story); and "The Hawley House Mystery," 135 p.

Biographical Note
Stephen Meader (1892-1977), a Quaker, graduated from Haverford College in 1913. After college, he worked with the Children's Aid Society as a social worker, and soon took up writing stories for boys. His job with Curtis Publishing Company brought him in contact with the well-known author, Christopher Morley, another Haverford graduate. Morley helped him, and several of his books were published. He later took a job in advertising at N.W. Ayer. He wrote over 40 novels for young readers. He was married to Betty Hoyt and then Patience Ludlum.
