Biographical Note
Marcus Mote (1817-1898) was a self-taught Quaker artist from Ohio. He lived and worked in Ohio until 1864, when he moved to Richmond, Indiana.
Opal Thornburg (1899-1975) conducted research on artist Marcus Mote. She was the executive assistant to the president of Earlham College, a Quaker college located in Richmond, Indiana.
