Biographical Note
Edward Rhoads (1873-1903) was the son of William Gibbons Rhoads and Sarah Wistar Rhoads. He graduated from Haverford College in 1893, and received his Ph.D. in physics from Johns Hopkins University in 1898. After graduation, he was an instructor in physics at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute until he left to be a student at Cambridge University, England. Upon his return, he served as instructor in physics at Haverford College, 1901-1903, and authored a paper on the effect of magnetization on iron. He drowned in 1903 while canoeing.
