Biographical Note
Chaim Potok (February 17, 1929 - July 23, 2002) was an American Jewish author and rabbi. He was born in the Bronx, New York, to Benjamin Max (d. 1958) and Mollie (Friedman) (d. 1985) Potok, Jewish immigrants from Poland. He was the oldest of four children, all of whom either became or married rabbis. His first book, "The Chosen," was published in 1967, to massive critical acclaim. He published numerous other books and plays throughout the course of his life, before passing away in 2002.
