This collection contains a letter written by Richard Carpenter that was sent to Richard Mott in September of 1849. In the letter, Carpenter expresses the sadness of not having Motts company in his previous Scarsdale Friends monthly meeting in New York. He then describes his experience of the gathering to Mott, who resides in Burlington, New Jersey.

Biographical Note

Richard Mott was born in 1767 in New York. He was a member of the Burlington and Rancocas Monthly Meetings. He also lived in Westchester, New York before moving to Burlington, New York in his later life. Mott passed away on July 29th, 1856. Richard Carpenter was born on July 15th, 1784 in Scarsdale, Westchester, New York. He was a member of the Scarsdale Friends meeting and friend of Richard Mott. Carpenter passed away in April of 1860.
