Scope and Contents
This collection is composed of a copy of the handwritten pages, as well as a typed transcript, of the journal of Jane Rhoads Morris. Morris's journal was written for her family at home during her trip to Canada during August and September, 1889. Her daily entries describe, in detail, her experiences camping in the Canadian wilderness, accompanied by her cousins and Indigenous people they employed to paddle them in canoes to and from each campsite, as well as interactions with Indigenous people the group meets during their travels. Morris also describes her male cousins fishing and hunting bear and various water fowl.

Biographical Note
Jane Rhoads Morris (1870-1950) was a Quaker woman, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 1, 1870, the daughter of William G. Rhoads and Sarah W. Wistar. In 1897, Jane married Marriott Canby Morris, and the couple had three children: Elliston Perot Morris, born 1899, Marriott Canby Morris, born 1900, and Janet Morris, born 1907. Jane Rhoads Morris died March 24, 1950.
