Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of the single handwritten diary of George A. Selleck's trip from his home in Kansas to England to attend the Friend's Peace Conference as a delegate. Entries detail Selleck's travel by train from Kansas to Philadelphia and on to New York, his voyage from New York to Liverpool, and his travels within England. Upon his arrival in England, entries describe sight seeing, largely in Devonshire, as well as Friends visited and Meetings attended. The last section of entries describe Selleck's return trip home.

Biographical Note
George A. Selleck (1898-1980) was born a Quaker in Emporia, Kansas, in 1898, the son of Cora Gain and Guy B. Selleck. In 1920, he attended the Friend's Peace Conference in England, and kept a diary of his travels. Selleck married Florence Mabel Gifford on July 7, 1925, in Westport, Massachusetts. He later married Daisy Newman in 1978.
Selleck was educated at Friends University, Wichita (B.A., 1921), Hartford Theological Seminary (S.T.B., ca. 1926), and Harvard (M.A., ca. 1932). He was a recorded minister and held positions in various Quaker Meetings and was also instrumental in reunifying the New England Yearly Meeting, revising their Book of Discipline. Selleck directed relief work under the auspices of the American Friends Service Committee in Finland from 1948 to 1950. He was Inter-faith Seminar Program director of the New England Region of the Service Committee from 1965 to 1967. George Selleck was author of Quakers in Boston 1656-1964 and Principles of the Quaker Business Meeting, among others.
