This collection is comprised of the single volume commonplace book of Susan Hilles Shearman. The volume includes extracts of poetry, hymns, prayers, newspaper clippings, quotations arranged by topics, and descriptions of Shearman's baby daughter. Inside the volume are post cards from Ephrata, and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, as well as a photograph of Hepsiba Hathaway Howland.

Biographical Note
Susan Hilles Shearman (1850-1935) was born February 13, 1850, in Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of William S. Hilles and Sarah Lancaster Allen. She married Isaac H. Shearman in 1872. Susan Hilles Shearman died January 8, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
