Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of the single volume photograph album of Francis G. Allinson. The album features photographs from Allinson's travels in Europe, particularly of landscapes, buildings, ruins, and mountains. According to some of the labels on the photos, a number of photos were taken in Germany, along the Rhine river. Also included are a number of Quaker portraits, including those of Charles S. Taylor, Abraham Taylor, Lizzie Rob, Belle Pugh, Amelia Gummere, Bessie Eyre, William Kimber, Howard Taylor, Samuel Alsop, Edward Allinson, and Samuel Gummere.

Biographical Note
Francis Greenleaf Allinson (1856-1931) was born December 16, 1856, in Burlington, New Jersey, the son of William James Allinson and Rebecca W. Hinchman Allinson. Allinson was educated at Haverford College, where he earned his bachelor's in 1876 and his master's in 1879. He received a second bachelor's from Harvard University in 1877, and his Ph.D. from John Hopkins University in 1880. In 1885, he married Mary Irwin Carey, and the couple had one daughter, Susanne Allinson (b. 1887). His first wife died in 1901, and he married Anne Crosby Emery in 1905. Allinson taught Latin and Greek at Haverford College, and was the Headmaster at the University School in Baltimore, Maryland. He was an assistant professor of Greek in 1882. He also taught at Brown University in 1895. Allinson published "Greek Lands and Letters," which was reproduced in multiple editions. He retired from teaching in 1928, and died on June 23, 1931.
