This collection is comprised of the single volume manuscript of Elaine Crauderueff's thesis for the Master of Arts in Religious Studies from Villanova University. The manuscript provides an overview of religious background of Quaker pacifism, including Quaker relationships with government authorities and the Peace Testimony of 1660. It also describes Quakers in the legislature, consequences of Quaker pacifism, and war taxes from 1750 to 1800, particularly those in Pennsylvania and in the colonies during the Revolutionary War period.

Biographical Note
Elaine Crauderueff (1956-) was born in 1956, the daughter of Robert and Renee Crauder. She married Michael Crauderueff in 1980. Crauderueff is a member of Radnor Monthly Meeting in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, and has served on several Yearly Meeting committees. From 1990 to 2002, she taught at Friends' Central School. She worked at Friends General Conference directing the American version of Quaker Quest, an outreach program (2007-2004).
