"A Memorable instance of Divine guidance and protection"
Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of the single volume, handwritten manuscript of "A Memorable instance of Divine guidence and protection," as told to Sarah Taylor by Jane Fearon and James Dickinson, two Quaker ministers. The manuscript is undated, but the story takes place circa 1680. The manuscript tells the story of Jane Fearon and James Dickinson's experience when on a religious visit to Scotland circa 1680. While traveling, they come upon a house and plan to stay there for the night. The family at the house offers them food, and Jane and James grow increasingly uneasy; Jane even fears that the pies given to the two are made of "human flesh." The majority of the story details Jane and James escape from the house, and how they were divinely lead to safety.
