Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of the three volume manuscript of Robert H. Morgan's dissertation for his Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard in 1939. His dissertation focuses on Quaker ideals and principles, as well as Quakers' reactions to contemporary life as exhibited through Quaker literature prior to 1825.

Biographical Note
Robert Handel Morgan (1911-1973) was born January 18, 1911, in Pennsylvania, the son of Warren Brooke Morgan and Florence Handel Daub. He attended West Philadelphia High School, where he graduated from in 1928. He received his bachelor's from Haverford College in 1932, and his master's and Ph.D from Harvard University in 1939. He married Virginia Elden Eggleston in 1937. Robert Morgan died November 10, 1973.
