Biographical Note

Richard Jordan (1756-1826) was born into a Quaker family in Norfolk County in the colony of Virginia, on Twelfth Month 19, 1756, the son of Joseph and Patience Jordan. After the death of his mother, the family moved to North Carolina, just before the American Revolution. He married Pharaby Knox on April 19, 1778, in Northhampton, North Carolina. The couple had 6 children: Sarah (1778-1795), Ann (1779-?), Elizabeth (1780-?), William E. (1787-?), Mary (1790-1799), and James (1793-1794). Richard Jordan died on October 14, 1826.
