Biographical Note
Albert J. Wahl (1909-1996) taught high school (1933-1946) and history at West Chester Teachers College (1946-1951) before joining the History Department at Indiana State Teachers College. He attended Lafayette College for his bachelor's and earned his master's in 1933. After completing his Ed.D. at Temple University in 1951, Wahl was hired by the Indiana State Teachers College.
Wahl's greatest interest lay in American social and intellectual history, especially the subgroup of Quakers known as the Progressive Friends, which was the subject of his doctoral dissertation. After 20 years, he retired from Indiana University of Pennsylvania as Emeritus Professor of History in 1971. After he retired, Wahl completed his book, Jesse Hayes Holmes, 1864-1942: A Quaker’s Affirmation for Man
(1979). For many years he served as the secretary of the Indiana Borough Police Commission.
