Biographical Note
Howard Comfort (1850-1912) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 21, 1850, to Edward Comfort and Susan Edge Comfort. On May 16, 1872, Howard Comfort married Susan Wistar, the daughter of Thomas W. Wistar and Priscilla Foulke Wistar. The couple had one son, William Wistar Comfort (1874-1955). Comfort was a Quaker merchant in Philadelphia, and often traveled between Philadelphia and various cities in Great Britain on business during the years 1890 and 1907. Comfort died in Philadelphia on April 12, 1912, at nearly 62 years old.
