The latter two of these three collections also contain various non-Euethean materials, such as an address to the Loganian Society, Alumni Association publications, and other Haverford College history. Historical Note
The Haverford Euethean Association was founded in the fall of 1855 and lasted about three years. The Association's objective was the promotion of good morals; specifically promoting the maintenance of order, obedience to rules, harmony among students, mutual respect between instructors and scholars, and discouragement of selfish and objectionable habits. Its motto was "Mens sibi conscia recti." It was not a literary society; there were no exercises or consistent weekly meetings. The members, sometimes referred to as 'the moralists,' attempted to investigate offenders of college law and reinstate discipline at the school. The society eventually dissolved in part because it had succeeded in reforming the lax state of discipline that inspired its formation, and in part due to the graduation of its founding members.
