Content Description
This collection includes a letter to Anna Wharton Wood from her brother Edward Wanton Smith on the subject of collecting papers on their grandfather, Daniel B. Smith, as well as two letters from Amelia Mott Gummere discussing documentation of Haverford history and “the Friends.” Wood's responses to these letters are not included. Also in the collection is an inventory of apple trees on the Haverford School Farm from 1832, which Anna Wharton Wood reproduced from her grandfather's papers in 1936. The Collection also includes newspaper clippings celebrating the 100th anniversary of Haverford College in 1933 and discussing the events that took place in honor of the anniversary, as well as the institution’s history. The name of the newspaper the clippings came from is unidentified.

Biographical Note
Amelia Mott Gummere (1859-1937), whose two letters are present in this collection, was heavily involved in the Quaker community. Gummere was a well-known author of works on Quaker subjects including: The Quaker: a Study in Costume, Witchcraft and Quakerism, The Quaker in the Forum, and The Journal and Essays of John Woolman. She was born on July 17th, 1859, in Burlington, New Jersey, to Richard Field and Susan Thomas Mott. Anna Wharton Wood (1864-1945) was the daughter of Benjamin Rapier Smith and Esther Fisher Wharton. She married Henry A. Wood in 1898. Like Gummere she was also involved in Quaker affairs as well as research relating to the Haverford College farm. Her brother, Edward Wanton Smith (1875-1940), researched Quaker history, especially as it related to the Smith family genealogy.
