Scope and Contents
The collection consists of four distinct series - Haverford College policies, research materials, lecture materials, and student materials. Each series is split into folders, which contain documents pertaining to Louis Green's activity in academia. These include his 1937 PhD. dissertation from Princeton, his Solar and Stellar Pulsations book manuscript, student assignments and examinations, lecture notes, calculations, and lab journals.

Biographical / Historical
Louis Craig Green was born in Macon, Georgia, in 1911. After obtaining his bachelor's and doctoral degrees from Princeton University in 1931 and 1937, respectively, he taught at Rutgers University and Allegheny College before accepting a faculty position at Haverford College, where he taught Astronomy from 1941 to 1976. He was also the College's first provost and an acting president in the summer of 1967. Additionally, he chaired the Astronomy department and was a member of the American Astronomical Union.
During his life, Green wrote many influential scientific publications, mostly about spectroscopy and the wavelengths and line strengths of heavy elements. Together with his wife Elizabeth, he also established four trust funds supporting research fellowships and professorships at Haverford. He died on April 10, 1999, in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
