Biographical / Historical
Harold Boatrite, born in 1932, was a musical composer. He studied at the Tanglewood Music Center and over the course of his life studied, and worked, under Stanley Hollingsworth, Lukas Foss and Aaron Copland. In 1967, he received a honorary doctorate from the Combs College of Music. He taught theory of music and composition at Haverford College between 1967 and 1980. Boatrite also served on the music panel of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, as the composer-in-residence for the Conductors Institute at the University of South Carolina (since 1992) and a music consultant to the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.
