Edwin B. Bronner, Abraham Lincoln and Haverford students materials
Scope and Contents
This collection contains a series of letters and print-outs pertaining to President Lincoln’s alleged address to the students of Haverford College on his way to Harrisburg. Edwin B. Bronner compiled evidence from multiple sources on whether the address may have taken place. Though the evidence does not prove that President Lincoln stopped amidst the cheering crowd at Haverford (aside from an entry in the 1892, “History of Haverford College” and a sign on Railroad Ave.), it does show that Lincoln passed through the area on the Pennsylvania Railroad. This makes it plausible that Haverford students may have caught wind of the trip and waited at the station for his arrival. Included in the documents is a photograph of a sign marking the spot of Lincoln’s address to the Haverford College students.
