Scope and Contents
A personal book of autographs, owned by Charles “Chad” Lippincott. Autographs and brief poems/quotes are scribed by teachers and classmates. Classmates and teachers hail from Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania, as well as the Normal School in Trenton, New Jersey. Additionally, there is a daguerrotype of Charles Lippincott taken in 1861.

Biographical / Historical
Charles Lippincott was born in Westfield, New Jersey (Cinnaminson) on June 16, 1842, the son of Isaiah and Mary Ann Lippincott. He enrolled in Haverford College in 1857 and left in 1859 at the end of his sophomore year. He was active on campus during his two years, serving as the Editor of The Bud and co-founding the Dorian Cricket Club. Charles graduated from the New Jersey State Normal School in 1861. Post-graduation, he was a teacher for 12 years. During that time, he also served as the Principal of Friends' Schol in Salem, New Jersey and the Principal of Friends' Seminary in Easton, New York. After his teachng career ended, he went on to become a farmer and fruit grower from 1875-1886. It was during this time on December 22, 1875 that Charles married his first wife, Anna G. Hill of Springfield, Pennsylvania. He married a second time to Isabella Smith. At the close of his farming career, Charles retired. He also went on to compile the "Lippincott Genealogical Tree". During retirement, he lived in Moorestown, New Jersey.

The Charles Lippincott autograph album was donated by Josiah H. Penniman in 1937. The aquisition of the daguerrotype is unknown.
