Content Description
The collection consists of a typed manuscript of Heber Sensenig's book Man and His Further Progress. The manuscript is bound with ribbon into two sections and is 480 pages in length. It contains a few handwritten annotations in pen. The manuscript is undated but is accompanied by an article from the Reading Times, dated January 8, 1959 entitled "Author, 85, Feted; Book Wins Praise." This collection also includes a black-and-white photographic print of the photograph used in the article. The photograph shows Sensenig, Miriam L. Seidel, John V. Hanf, and Robert T. Duddy.

Biographical / Historical
Heber Sensenig was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on February 2, 1873. He attended Haverford College, graduating in 1900. While at Haverford, Sensenig was the captain of the track and field team, played football, and served as an instructor in mathematics. Following graduation, he taught Latin, Greek, and mathematics at schools in New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. Sensenig published two novels, The Idealist (1940) and The Sanctuary. He published Man and His Further Progress in 1958, but was only able to publish a portion of the complete manuscript due to financial constraints. Sensenig died in 1960.

Custodial History
Sensenig gave the manuscript to John V. Hanf, whose daughter, Marjorie Cohen, donated it to the College Archives along with the clipping and the photograph.The manuscript was accompanied by cardboard packaging with the following note in handwritten script: "Man and His Further Progress/ A Better Man in a Better World/ Final Ribbon Copy/ This manuscript to be given to Mr. John V. Hanf Box 289 Shoemakersville Pa in case I should suddenly die/ Heber Sensenig."
