The collection contains letters written by Richard C. Paxson to his brother and sister about the funeral of Haverford College's first president, Joseph Gibbons Harlan, and his leisure time at Haverford. Included are original letters, their rewritten printouts and a copy of "Ante-Bellum Haverford" from 1941 featuring these letters.

Biographical / Historical
Richard C. Paxson was a Haverford College student between 1853 and 1859, when he graduated with A.B. degree. He later worked as a Deputy Treasurer in San Francisco.
