Scope and Contents
This collection contains five compositions written by Samuel L. Fox. Four of the compositions are titled "The Ant," "The Necessity of Controlling the Passions," "Indolence Contrasted with Industry," and "The Warrior." One of the compositions is untitled, but the subject of the composition is Madame Roland during the French Revolution.

Biographical Note
Samuel Lewis Fox was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and entered Haverford in 1850. He left Haverford at the end of his freshman year in 1851. He worked as an optician and manufacturer of scientific instruments and was a member of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, and the Franklin Institue. He was married to Harriet Brown and died in Philadelphia on November 12, 1912.
