Scope and Contents
This collection contains a variety of materials related to William Henry Gibbons and the Haverford College Class of 1872. There are handouts about a junior exhibition that was indefinitely postponed due to students violating a college law; information about the 1872 commencement ceremony; a newspaper article about the Loganian society; letters addressed to Gibbons about his Master of Arts degree; and three speeches written by Gibbons, including his valedictorian speech.

Biographical Note
William Henry Gibbons entered the sophomore class in 1869 and graduated in 1872. He was class valedictorian. He received a Master of Arts degree from Haverford in 1875. After graduating, he was a member of the Merion Cricket Club and the Pennsylvania Historic Society. He was vice president of various iron companies and the National Bank of Chester Valley, before retiring in 1919.
