Scope and Contents
This collection contains summaries of the lives of members of the Haverford College Class of 1881 from 1882-1933. The brief summaries pertain to the class members’ health, travels, homes, education, careers, marriages, and children. Many of the summaries also describe the class members’ general wellbeing and many summaries mention a desire to reconnect with members of the class and to plan reunions at the College. Some of the summaries specifically mention members of the class who have not responded to requests to send in a brief life summary. The first five summaries are handwritten while the rest are typed. In addition to the class summaries, there are a few letters written by the Class of 1881 secretary, William Henry Collins. The letters address the state of the class summaries, Collins’ role as secretary, and describe the conditions of the lasting relationships between the class members.

Biographical
This collection belonged to Walter F. Price, Haverford College Class of 1881. Price was born in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, in 1857. He entered Haverford College in 1877, where he won the prize belt for fielding in cricket and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After graduating, he traveled and worked as an architect.
The class summaries in this collection were collected, arranged, and distributed by the Class of 1881’s secretary, William Henry Collins. Collins was born in Peekskill, New York, in 1859. He entered Haverford College in 1877, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Loganian Society, and the Founders’s Society. After graduating, he remained involved in the College, working as the superintendent of buildings and grounds of Haverford College from 1897-1920.
