In 1952, Quakers celebrated the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Friends on Shelter Island. At that time, a few Quaker families in the area began to meet in homes and then in Northville, New York. In 1955 they became Eastern Long Island Monthly Meeting, under the Friends World Committee for Consultation. Eastern Long Island Executive Meeting was established in 1990 with three worship groups, Southold, Southampton, and Shelter Island, under Long Island Quarterly Meeting of New York Yearly Meeting.
