Eastern Preparative Meeting at Eastern Correctional Facility Records
Scope and Contents
The records of Eastern Meeting (which was active inside Eastern Correctional Facility circa 1996 through 2010) include both those created by Eastern Meeting's inside members incarcerated at the prison as well as those created by outside members of New Paltz Monthly and Nine Partners Quarterly Meetings. Most of the records relate to Eastern Meeting's challenges in getting the outside meetings to support their concern for Preparative Meeting status.

Biographical / Historical
A worship group began at Eastern Correctional Facility sometime in or before 1996. Eastern is a state prison for men in Napanoch, New York, in Ulster County, and the worship group was originally under the care of New Paltz Monthly Meeting.
In early 1996, the group first requested Preparative Meeting status from New Paltz Monthly Meeting. By 1998, New Paltz requested that Nine Partners Quarterly Meeting take Eastern under its care instead, and that the Quarter consider Eastern's Preparative Status requests. In 1999, Nine Partners QM officially affirmed Eastern as a "prison preparative."
The meeting called itself "Eastern Preparative Meeting," sometimes including "of the Religious Society of Friends at: Eastern Correctional Facility." New York Yearly Meeting called the group "Eastern Preparative Prison Meeting."
Eastern Preparative Meeting was laid down in 2010.
