Biographical / Historical
Elba Preparative Meeting was reportedly established in 1818 as a part of Farmington Monthly Meeting; it was called Batavia Preparative prior to 1820. This meeting became a part of Hartland Monthly on its establishment in 1821. After the Separation, the Hicksite branch was attached to Rochester Monthly Meeting when Hartland Monthly was laid down in 1829. It was an indulged meeting under Rochester until its re-establishment as a preparative meeting in 1831. The meeting was called Lockport Preparative until 1832 when its name was changed to Hartland Preparative. In 1833 the meeting moved to the town of Elba and was referred to as Elba Preparative. It was laid down in 1849, and members were attached to Wheatland Preparative.
