Biographical / Historical
Farmington Preparative Meeting was established in Farmington, Michigan, by Adrian Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) in 1831. The preparative was laid down in 1835.
In the 1820s, there was significant westward migration of New York Quakers. The town of Farmington in Michigan (and the name of the preparative meeting) takes its name from Farmington, New York, and the meetings were part of New York Yearly Meeting. There are also Quaker meetings in Farmington, New York that are otherwise unrelated.
New York Yearly Meeting's Farmington Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox) established Adrian Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) in Michigan in 1831. Farmington Preparative Meeting (Orthdox), established the same year, was under its care. The preparative was laid down in 1835.
