Biographical / Historical
Butternuts Monthly Meeting was established in 1810, set off from Duanesburg Monthly Meeting. At first it comprised the preparative meetings of Butternuts, Madison, Burlington and Otego. In 1817 Bridgewater Monthly Meeting was set off, taking Brookfield, Madison, Bridgewater and New Hartford Preparatives. Butternuts retained the preparative meetings of Laurens, Butternuts and Burlington. Butternuts Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) changed its name to Laurens Monthly Meeting and was reportedly laid down in 1857, its members attached to Duanesburg Monthly Meeting (Hicksite). Butternuts Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) changed its name to Morris Monthly Meeting in 1881, and then to West Laurens Monthly Meeting in 1889.
