Biographical / Historical
A meeting for worship known as Hempfield was organized in this area in 1728, but it had no official affiliation with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting until 1799, when an indulged meeting at Hempfield came under care of Lampeter Preparative Meeting and Sadsbury Monthly Meeting. In 1810, the name of the meeting was changed to Columbia and a preparative meeting was established in 1812. The Orthodox preparative meeting was discontinued in 1829, and its members were transferred to Lampeter Preparative Meeting. The meeting for worship was discontinued in 1834, and an indulged meeting at Columbia was established for a few months in 1835. The Hicksite preparative meeting was considered to be discontinued by 1830; its members were attached to Lampeter Preparative Meeting. Columbia Meeting was discontinued in about 1887.
