Biographical / Historical
A meeting for worship at Marlborough was organized in 1798. A year later, Marlborough became an indulged meeting under the care of Bradford, Kennett, and London Grove Monthly Meetings. The meeting for worship was established in 1801 by Western Quarterly Meeting; a preparative meeting was established in 1802 under Kennett Monthly Meeting. The Orthodox preparative meeting was discontinued in 1827; its members were transferred to Kennett Preparative... Meeting. Marlborough Meeting (Orthodox) was discontinued in 1831. In 1917, Marlborough Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) began to circulate between Marlborough and Unionville. From 1919 to 1930, the name of the meeting was changed to Marlborough-Unionville Preparative Meeting. In 1931, Unionville became an indulged meeting and the name of the preparative meeting returned to Marlborough. In 1972, Marlborough Preparative Meeting was established as Marlborough Monthly Meeting.
