Scope and Contents

Records of Western Quarterly Meeting, 1758-2019, include: minutes, 1758-2019 (2013-2019 minutes are digital); pre-Separation and Hicksite women's minutes, 1758-1900; Ministers and Elders' minutes, 1763-1985; financial records; and miscellaneous papers; Orthodox records of the William Jackson bequest for the education of children of West Grove Preparative and Western Quarterly Meetings, 1835-1929 (including minutes of the Trustees, 1836-1900, accounts, 1849-71, 1871-94, & 1894-1928, and other bills, receipts, and miscellaneous correspondence).

The collection also includes more recent records related to the London Britain burial ground, as the London Britain Meetinghouse and its cemetary are owned by Western Quarterly Meeting.

Biographical / Historical

Western Quarterly Meeting was established in 1758 by Philadelphia Yearly Meeting out of a division of Chester Quarterly Meeting. Many of the monthly meetings in this quarter were transferred to Baltimore Yearly Meeting.

In 1955, Western Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox) merged with Western Quarterly Meeting (Hicksite).
