Dates
- Creation: 1945-1964
Historical Note
The League of Nations Association (LONA), organized in 1923 as the League of Nations Nonpartisan Association, suffered a period of dormancy during World War Two, but emerged actively in 1945 at the American Association for the United Nations (AAFUN). AAFUN conducts an educational program on behalf of the United Nations. It maintains the affiliation with the Commission to Study the Organization of Peace" that was begun by the LONA. The Peoples Section for the United Nations (UN) developed at the headquarters of AAFUN to spread popular information about the UN.
In May 1964, the AAFUN merged with the United States Committee for the United Nations to form the United Nations Association of the United States of America.
