Biographical / Historical
Organization of the American Society of International Law first was suggested at the 11th annual Lake Mohonk Conference on International Arbitration in 1906. The first annual meeting was held in Washington in April 1907.
"The object of the Society is to foster the study of international law and promote the establishment of international relations on the basis of law and justice. It has pursued this course by the holding of its annual meetings and the publication of a quarterly magazine."
In 1934, the memberhsip was more than 1,200 and included teachers and practitioners of itnernational law, students, and government officials.
