Biographical / Historical
Two Atlantic City Conference for Peaceworkers were called for by the Joint Peace Board, the first was on December 4-7, 1945 and the second was on February 12-14, 1946. Sponsoring organizations were: American Friends Service Committee, Friends General Conference, Five Years Meeting of Friends, Baptist Pacifist Fellowship, Board of Social Missions of the United Lutheran Church, Brethren Service Committee, Commission of World Peace of the Methodist Church, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Disciples of Christ Social Action Committee, Episcopal Pacifist Fellowship, Evangelical and Reformed Pacifist Fellowship, Fellowship of Reconciliation (US Section), Jewish Peace Fellowship, Mennonite Central Committee, National Council for Prevention of War, National Peace Conference, Pacifist Research Bureau, War Resisters League, and Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (U.S. Section). Conscientious objectors in Civilian Public Service were also represented.
At the second conference, the Joint Peace Board was reorganized into the Consultative Peace Council.
