Biographical / Historical
Lew Ayres was an actor known for his role in All Quiet on the Western Front. Ayres registered as a conscientious objector (CO) during World War Two. Ayres asked for non-combatant/medical service but was sent to a Civilian Public Service (CPS) camp in Oregon for two months. Later, Ayres was granted a spot on a medical unit.
